Friday evening, August 25th,
2000 a stray dog limped into our backyard. She was barely able to walk - her right
rear leg was broken & her good legs were weak & wobbly. She was filthy
dirty with spots of motor oil on her & full of burrs, also skinny, tired & severly
flea infested. She was afraid of us at first but finally let us pet her. We
gave her some fresh, cool water & some food but she was too tired to eat or drink very
much. After waking up from a nap she acted like she felt a little better. Then Gene
picked & combed all of the burrs off of her. |
We took "Angel" to our
veterinarian the next day. We also had the groomer bathe her for fleas.
The vet said she is about 6 or 8 months old & weighs 23.20 pounds. Her leg
was broken just above the knee joint most likely from being hit by a car.
The vet sent us to a specialist in St. Louis for special surgery. At first they were
afraid they might have to amputate her leg but fortunately they were able to save it.
They put some pins in it & she will be able to use it but will probably have a
limp.
 |
She did real good
during & after her surgery. We gave her pain medicine twice a day, an
anti-biotic three times a day, put warm compresses on her leg & gave her leg physical
therapy excercises numerous times each day. And Gene would carry her out in the yard
every few hours to take care of her personal business. |

October 2000 - Angel is doing
great!!!! She is up to almost 30 pounds & has a little bit of a limp but it
sure doesn't slow her down. She runs from one end of the yard to the other!
She runs so fast sometimes all you see is a white streak go by.

|
Angel is so happy &
playfull. She smiles all of the time & loves all of her toys & she
especially enjoys shredding cardboard boxes & newspapers. She is soooooo
different from the pitifull little creature she was when she first wandered into our yard. |

|
Angel loves her new home
& her new "cat sisters" Candy &
Brandy. They really like her too except that they are old "senior
citizens" now & they are a bit put off by all of her puppy enthusiasm. But
we think it will all work out over time as they grow more accustomed to each other.
June 4, 2001 - Angel no longer has a limp
& she is up to a whopping 35 pounds!
We had her fixed last week.
