RACHEL DOGGETT
was born in Tennessee in 1791.  She was the daughter of George Doggett.  Rachel was married in Missouri in 1818 to George McGahan.  Her husband was originally from Pennsylvania & Virginia, was also an important early settler in St. Francois County, Missouri.  He was a justice of the peace & was instrumental in getting the first paved roads in the area, as well as being a judge.  Rachel died June 8th, 1846 at the age of 54 years, & 6 months & is buried on what was once the McGahan farm in the vicinity northeast of BonneTerre.   There is a cemetery transcription by Hazel Murphy Willa that states that this cemetery no longer exists but this is incorrect.  This cemetery is still in existence & is on land owned by a very nice Christian woman.  Tombstones were photographed June, 2003 by Brad McGahan.
