Rev. George Washington Henderson
By: Esther M. Ziock Carroll
1840 - My great, great grandfather was Rev. George Washington Henderson. He was born in St. Francois County, Missouri on February 14. His parents who were also cousins were Mary Ann Henderson and John Henderson, Jr. & siblings: James Monroe, Elizabeth & Almeda.
1847 - George's father, John Henderson, Jr., dies but before he died he purchased the property adjoining with that of his father-in-law and put it in the names of his children: George W., James M., and Elizabeth. This indicates that John died before the birth of his fourth child, Almeda. John Henderson purchased this property from Susan & William Allen 28 July 1847: SE1/4 of NW1/4 SEC9 T34N R5E 40 acres. This is in Pendleton T. However there is a mystery as there was also a Land Patent that says that this same property was patented to Thomas C. Allen 1 March 1848. Cert. 10093
1850 - George & his mother & siblings are living with his maternal grandparents, Hopy & James Henderson, Pendleton T., St. FranCoMo
1851 - George's mother, Mary Ann Henderson Henderson, marries Robert M. Markham
1855 - Inventory of the estate of George W., James M., Elizabeth Henderson minor heirs of John Henderson dec'd. to wit: SE1/4 of NW1/4 SEC9 T34N R5E containing 40 acres upon which is a farm of eighteen acres under fence, with cabins for dwellings.

1863 - George & his brother James purchased from their grandparents, Hopy & James Henderson, some of James Henderson property. This was in Pendleton Township, SW1/4 SEC9 & SE1/4 SE1/4 SEC8 T34N R5E SEC9.
1863 - George's father's estate is finalized & each child receives $184.50. George's uncle, Amariah Henderson, is also mentioned in this document.
1863 - George & his brother, James, register for the Civil War draft. They stated that they had no previous military service.
1866 - Geo. W. & James Henderson purchase from Elijah W. Fong (of Randolph County, Ark.) Lot#1 NE1/4 SEC4 T34N R5E in Pendelton T., St. Francois County, Mo. 80 62/100 Acres - (James Henderson's wife was Amanda E. Fong)

At some point James Henderson went to Illinois as his son, John H. Henderson, was born in Ill. & George also moved away from St. Francois County (where?).
1870 - George's mother, step-father & their children are living in Greene County, Arkansas
1878 - Emeline & George's son, James Washington Monroe, is born
1879 - John Robert is born
1880 - Emeline & George W. were living in Pendleton Township, St. Francois County, Mo. George's nephew from Illinois, John H. Henderson - born 1866, was also living with them. Also George's grandmother, Hopy Henderson, is back in St. FranCoMo & is living with her daughter Jane Graham.
1890 - I have not yet found any Civil War service records on George or his brother James although both would have been the right age to have served.
