Jim
Martin was the first born of
Birdie
Henderson & Guy
Martin. Uncle Jim was wounded in
France, WWII, in the Battle of the Bulge.
His upper teeth were shot out taking part of
his left upper lip as well & leaving a
permanent scar. Jim was married the first
time to Marie Springer & they had one son,
James Martin,Jr. During the war Jim
met his second wife, Mary. I can't
remember her last name but she was
Hungarian. They married in Germany &
had one daughter, Pearl, named after my
mother. After the war they returned to
the United States & settled in St. Louis
Co., Mo. Since they lived not far from us we
would visit back & forth often. Jim
loved plants & gardening as did my mother.
He also had bee hives in his back yard.
One time when I was over there visiting when
he was harvesting honey. He cut off a
piece of the comb & told me to chew on it.
When I bit down on that honey comb & that
sweet honey squished out in my mouth it was
like a taste of heaven. I had never
tasted such good honey! When I was a
teenager Jim & Mary got divorced & some
years later he was briefly married to a
woman named Lottie. Don't remember her
last name. Then around 1972 he met &
married Donna Asbridge & they resided near
Bonne Terre, St. Francois Co., Mo. This
marriage lasted until uncle Jim's death in
2010. |
