Jefferson County, Missouri
|
DeSoto is located on Joachim Creek, and on the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railway. It was laid out in September, 1857, by Thomas C. Fletcher (later governor) and Louis James Rankin. The post office was established soon after the town was laid out, and the first postmaster was C.B. Fletcher, father of Gov. Fletcher. At the outbreak of the Civil War [1861] the town contained not over 200 inhabitants. |
