MAIN ENTRANCE TO FARMINGTON from Hwy. 67. The original town of Farmington which was then called the "Murphy Settlement" was founded 1798-99 by Wm. Murphy. In 1821 David Murphy donated 52 acres of land for establishment of a county seat. The above sign is on what used to be Joseph Murphy's property. Esther Carroll's Henderson ancestors, who settled in the Murphy Settlement (Farmington) 1810 & before, were related to the Murphy family. Photographed: Sept/Oct., 1998 |
