St. Vincent's Institution for the Insane was
later renamed St. Vincent's Sanitarium.
It was also known as St. Vincent's
Institution. It was founded by the
Sisters of Charity & was a Catholic hospital
for the treatment of mental and nervous
diseases opening in August 1858 at Ninth and
Marion Streets in St. Louis. In 1891 the
hospital relocated to St. Charles Rock Road
in St. Louis County. There it remained
in existence until the 1980s at which time
it became Castle Park Apartments at 1600
Castle Park.

employees. The structure is listed
on the National Register of Historic
