Sweet Memories ~ Missouri Paranormal
Research Investigation
19 May 2007 ~ Potosi, Washington County, Missouri
The staff of Potosi's Sweet Memories
Sandwich & Ice Cream Shop, 105 W. Breton Street, have experienced numerous
supernatural / paranormal occurrences since it's opening in 2002.. It is uncertain
exactly when the house was built but the history of this property goes back
to 1798.
On 19 May 2007 the Missouri
Paranormal Research (MPR ) team arrived to do an investigation having been invited
by Esther M. Ziock Carroll - Washington County resident, genealogist &
historian. Esther is the MPR team's newest member holding the position of Historic
Research Co-ordinator. Esther is also a distant cousin of Cindy Merx
owner/proprietor of Sweet Memories.
Missouri Paranormal Research is
a dedicated, experienced group of ghost hunters from St. Louis. They have done many
investigations in various Missouri locations as well as out of state. They do not
charge for their services & conduct investigations at their own expense. They
have been featured in numerous publications, radio & tv talk shows & have made
several documentary films about the paranormal. These films will be featured on TV
on the Sci-Fi & Discovery Channels in the near future.
Steven LaChance, founder &
administrator of Missouri Paranormal Research, has connections to Washington County as
many of his family are from this area. Some of his ancestors were early French
miners here. His grandparents were Joseph & Norma LaChance & his father is
Fred LaChance. His great aunt Genevieve lived in Potosi all of her life & he
remembers visiting her here when he was a child.
The MPR Team arrived in
Potosi at 6:00 p.m. The investigative Team members were: Steven LaChance
- Founder & Administrator; Greg Myers - Co-administrator; Laura Helbig -
Director of Public Relations & Case Manager; Tom Halstead - Photographer;
Theresa - Assistant Team Leader & Sensitive Investigator; Elliot - Junior
Investigator; Ginny Clifton - Medical Advisor; Wade Baird - Faith Advisor;
Sandy Oates - Researcher. After a brief tour of Sweet Memories, Esther & Gene
Carroll, assisted by Leslie Hamby of Old Mines, took the Team on a tour of the Masonic,
Presbyterian, & Potosi City Cemeteries on Breton Street. After returning to
Sweet Memories everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Cindy Merx & Billy
Emily. After dinner the Team began setting up their equipment which
consisted of video recorders with & without infra-red extenders & night shot
capabilities, digital cameras, EMF meters, voice recorders, IR thermometers &
radiation detectors.
Several members of the team had
humanistic experiences but otherwise the spirits weren't too active that night. Two
members (at the same time) heard a voice that no one else heard. Another member,
while outside, sensed an unseen presence watching them from an upstairs window. A
followup investigation may be done next year.
