This Ziock really peaked my interest as I had never heard of their birthplace of Zemply Maygar & I could not find anything about it on the interenet. So I contacted John Dziak who is an expert on the European areas of the various diversions of the name & just as I thought he knew exactly where it was. Here is a copy of our correspondence:
Hi John, We corresponded once before some years ago about our surnames. I recently came across some information which may interest you. It gives John Ziock's birthplace as Zemply Maygar. I have never heard of this place & am unable to find anything about it on the internet. If you will also look at the attached census record it gives John Ziock's mother tongue as Slavik. You are much more familiar with the European areas than I am. Would you have any opinions on any of this information or suggestions about how I might research it further? Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Subject: Re: Dziak, Ziock, Ziok, ZeockHello
Nice to hear from you...
Zemply, Zemplen (Zemplin) can be considered as like a county to us in U.S., a State to Hungary or Slovakia. There is still a Zemplen "county" in Slovakia.
Magyar - means Hungary. Hungary was the country he emmigrated from, it was also called Austia-Hungary until 1918 when it became CzechoSlovakia it is currently Slovakia.
Zemplen is where most of the Dziak, Ziock, Ziok, Zeock-s came from who lived below (south of) the Carpathian mountains. Those living to the north lived in the Austian province of Galicia which is now S.E. Poland.
Slavik is a term that was used to identify Slavs (ethnicity) - Western ( Polish, Slovak, etc) and Eastern (Rusyn, Ukrainian and Russian). This separated them from German, Austian, etc., etc.
It gets even more complicated if they had identified themselves by their religion, which sometimes happened.
Hope this helps!
John
